Hong Kong Sinfonietta Vancouver Début
Hong Kong Sinfonietta makes its North American début in some of the regions’ most remarkable concert halls in September and October 2012. First stop of its North American tour is Vancouver’s celebrated Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. The orchestra will perform in a one-night-only concert to benefit S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation on Friday, September 28 at 7:30pm. Proceeds from the concert will benefit S.U.C.C.E.S.S. youth services and programs. Founded in 1990 by a group of local musicians, Hong Kong Sinfonietta has since evolved to become one of Hong Kong’s flagship professional orchestras. Together with renowned conductor YIP Wing-sie as Music Director, the orchestra has brought quality orchestral music closer to the community through innovative programming, as well as achieved significant recognition on local and international stages for its passionate and energetic performances.
Presented by London Drugs Foundation with support from the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
The evening’s program will feature performances by China's most talented violinist YANG Tian-wa; and award winning sheng soloist LOO Sze-wang, Artist Associate of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. The program will include the North American premiere of ‘Twas the Thawing Wind’, a sheng concerto especially written for LOO Sze-wang and the orchestra by Hong Kong composer CHAN Hing-yan.
